Recycling Resources for Multi-Family Dwellings
1.) Free Internal Recycling Containers! Visit www.bottlesandcans.com to sign up for a free recycling container from the California Refund Value (CRV) Program. They are advertised for businesses but can easily apply to homes and apartments. Put one by the mailboxes to collect junk mail to recycle as paper! Let your tenants know about this helpful resource and it could increase your complex's recycling rates. Limit 1 per order but you can order multiple times. They also have free recycling posters available to post in common areas.
2.) Got Stuff? All Multi-Family Dwellings tend to accumulate unwanted household items in or near the dumpster area at some time. This information is a good resource for tenants in the process of moving and managers looking to find homes for items in their trash enclosures:
- Sonomax is a free online resource where you can find or discard items. It demonstrates the idea that one person's trash is another's treasure. Simply log onto the SonoMax web site and create a wanted or available listing. For more information, visit www.sonomax.org.
- Sonoma County Recycling Guide Web Site is the online version of the Recycling Guide included in this packet as well as in the AT&T Phone Book under the tab "Recycling." It lists local businesses and organizations that accept hazardous and toxic materials, calendars the community toxic clean-up schedule, and much more. To visit the site: www.recyclenow.org.
- Join your Freecycle Community! The Freecycle Network is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Visit www.freecycle.org for more information.
- Take Advantage of your Local Thrift Shops! Goodwill will accept and recycle household and electrical appliances, if they function or not. For more information about Goodwill, visit www.gire.org. Also, St. Vincent De Paul now accepts most electrical equipment and appliances as well as used household goods. For more information cal 584-1579.
3.) Got Junk Mail? Let your tenants know about this wonderful "Stop Junk Mail Kit" to reduce the amount of paper in your mailboxes. Visit www.stopjunkmail.org or call 877-STOPWASTE for more information.
