Recycle Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs)
CFLs are a great way to reduce energy usage, but because they contain mercury vapor, they are considered hazardous waste and cannot be disposed in the garbage. Here are a few ways you can recycle CFLs:
The Household Toxics Facility
Central Disposal Site
500 Mecham Road, Petaluma # 565-7940
Open Thursday-Saturday: 7:30am-3:30pm
See www.recyclenow.org for more information
Each week there is a Community Toxics Collection event in a different city in Sonoma County. Check out Sonoma County's recycling resource for schedule and locations: www.recyclenow.org.
Until more convenient ways of recycling these items becomes available, we encourage you to ask the retailers where you purchase these products to consider an in-store take back program.
